A Third and Fourth Grade lacrosse team focuses on developing fundamental skills, introducing basic game concepts, and encouraging sportsmanship in a slightly more structured environment. Here's a description:
Team Overview
- Ages: Typically 8–10 years old (third and fourth grade).
- Focus: Building on foundational lacrosse skills, learning simple game strategies, and promoting teamwork and sportsmanship.
- Format: Games are more structured, often 7v7 or 8v8, played on smaller fields with age-appropriate rules to encourage success and development.
Key Goals
- Skill Development: Enhancing basic skills like passing, catching, cradling, shooting, and ground ball control. Introducing defensive positioning and proper footwork.
- Game Understanding: Teaching basic rules, field positioning, and teamwork concepts like spacing and movement.
- Sportsmanship: Encouraging positive attitudes, respect for teammates, opponents, and officials, and fostering a love for the game.
Equipment
- Sticks: Regulation lacrosse sticks sized for youth players.
- Balls: Standard lacrosse balls, though softer options may still be used in some programs.
- Protective Gear: Helmets, mouthguards and Goalies wear additional protective equipment.
Practices & Games
- Practices include skill-based drills, small-sided games, and fun activities to keep players engaged while improving their abilities.
- Games are more competitive than at younger levels but still prioritize learning and fun over winning.
- Practice Days & Location: 3/4 Girls: Tue & Thu, 4:30–5:45 PM — North Sherman Park (Small Field)
This program aims to build confidence, refine skills, and prepare players for higher levels of lacrosse while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship in an encouraging environment.
