Return to 2025 Spring Girls Program

A Kindergarten through 2nd Grade lacrosse team is a fun and developmental introduction to the sport, designed for young children to learn basic lacrosse skills in a playful and supportive environment. Here’s a general description:

Team Overview

  • Ages: Typically 5–8 years old (kindergarten through 2nd grade).
  • Focus: Emphasis on fun, basic skill development, teamwork, and building a love for the game.
  • Format: Games are usually non-competitive, small-sided (e.g., 3v3 or 5v5), and played on smaller fields to keep players engaged and active.

Key Goals

  1. Skill Introduction: Teaching basic lacrosse fundamentals like cradling, scooping, passing, catching, and shooting.
  2. Coordination Development: Encouraging motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and physical activity.
  3. Teamwork: Introducing the concept of working as a team and building social skills.
  4. Fun Environment: Ensuring every child has a positive and enjoyable experience.

Equipment

  • Sticks: Lightweight, beginner-sized lacrosse sticks.
  • Balls: Softer, child-friendly balls, often made of foam or rubber.
  • Protective Gear: Mouthguards and helmets for safety.

Practices & Games

  • Practices often focus on short, engaging drills and fun games to keep attention spans intact.
  • Scrimmages or mini-games allow kids to apply what they’ve learned without pressure or strict rules.

This type of program builds a foundation for a lifetime of enjoying lacrosse while fostering a positive first sports experience for young players.
